YOUR RESULT → YOUR NEXT STEP

What does my result mean?

Choose what you observed. These explanations help you narrow down a problem; they are not an automatic hardware diagnosis.

A live picture appears

What it means

The browser received frames from the selected camera. Resolution describes the active stream, not necessarily the camera’s maximum.

What to do next

Move briefly to confirm that the picture is live, check framing and lighting, then press Stop when finished.

Permission is blocked or the preview stays black

What it means

Permission, a privacy shutter, a wrong camera selection or another app can prevent a useful image.

What to do next

Open the shutter, check browser and system permissions, then select the intended camera. Close other camera apps and retry.

The image is dim, low-resolution or FPS is unavailable

What it means

Lighting, negotiated stream settings and browser frame-callback support affect what can be shown.

What to do next

Improve front lighting and compare the camera in a local camera app. Unavailable FPS means this measurement is unsupported, not that the camera has zero frames per second.

Understanding your results

Resolution shows the dimensions of the active video stream. It can differ from the maximum advertised camera resolution because the browser chooses an available capture mode.

FPS is measured from video frame callbacks when supported. Unsupported browsers show an unavailable result instead of substituting display refresh rate. This tool does not record or upload camera video.

Troubleshooting your webcam test

The camera is busy or preview will not start

Close other camera applications and check the physical privacy shutter. Confirm site and operating-system permissions, then retry Start. A failed preview releases the camera so you can retry.

Resolution or FPS is lower than expected

The negotiated capture mode may be below the advertised maximum. Lighting and USB bandwidth can affect delivery. FPS is available only when the browser exposes video frame callbacks.

Frequently asked questions

Does Mirror change what the camera records?
